    Protein Summary

    This is a well characterized protein: Transcriptional regulator, TetR family from Jannaschia sp. CCS1. The protein forms a dimer as shown below. Stearic acid (STE), shown in stick representation, binds to each monomer. Assignment of STE to the ligand density is based on some references in the literature (6, 7).

    The binding of STE may regulate the function of the protein by rearranging the dimer conformation such that the protein's ability to bind DNA is altered.

    The protein belongs to Pfam PF00440 (http://pfam.sanger.ac.uk/family?acc=PF00440) with at least 35 structures already reported. A few of these are: 1JTY 1T56 1VI0 1ZK8 1ZKG 2F07 2G3B 2GEN 2GFN 2HYT 2O7T 2OI8 2PBX 2QTQ 2RAS 2RHA 3B81 3BHQ. A comparison of the structures reveals that 1ZKG and 2O7T have unknown ligands (UNL) bound to them at the site overlapping with STE.
