    Protein Summary

    Npun_R1471 gene from Nostoc punctiforme pcc 73102 encodes the protein YP_001865114 that, according to Pfam, belongs to the Lin0512 family (PF09585).

    The crystal structure (3c8l) reveals that the protein has a four stranded beta-sheet with some helices. There are 2 molecules in the asu forming a dimer. Analysis of crystal packing suggests that the protein may be tetrameric in solution. SEC results are not available yet. The picture below depicts the dimer.

    A DALI search reveals that the top hits  are cell division related FtsZ proteins like 1W5F or 1FSZ (Z-score=6.1) and 1QU9 (Z-score 4.7).

    3c8l structure (magenta, below) is similar to that of the C-terminal portion of FtsZ (this portion of FtsZ has unknown function) which is a bacterial cell division protein. FtsZ (yellow, below) is supposed to have 2 domains, including a GTPase domain (related to p21Ras and EF-Tu).  See Ref. 1.
