    The Ralstonia eutropha jmp134 gene Reut_A1686 encodes for a GCN5-related N-acetyltransferase (GNAT, PF00583, cl00443, EC:2.3.1.-), an enzyme that catalizes the transfer of an acetyl group to lysine in histones. The biological functional unit is a dimer. The protein structure belongs to the alpha/beta class and adopts a three layer alpha/beta/alpha sandwich (2q0y-CATH). Similar structures have been determined by PSI such as 3dsb, 3f0a, 1tiq (also see [Ref]).An introduction to the structural role of histone acetyltransferases (HATs) is given by [Ref] which can be downloaded freely.
