    Protein Summary

    The gene TM0922 from Thermotoga maritima encodes a protein of unknown function.  The structure contains 2 clearly defined domains.  The N-terminal domain is related to YJEF superfamily domain PF03853.  The YjeF N-terminal domain occurs either as single proteins or fusions with other domains.  YJEF domains are commonly associated with enzymes. In bacteria and archaea, YjeF N-terminal domains are often fused to C-terminal domain with high structural homology to the members of a ribokinase-like superfamily.  The C-terminal domain of the TM0922 gene can be generally characterized as a sugar kinase domain PF01256, most probably involved in carbohydrate transport and metabolism.  This family is related to hydroxyethylthiazole and PfkB carbohydrate kinases. 

    Dali provides hits with the carbohydrate kinase 3k5w (Z=40), the YJEF related protein 2r3b (Z=35), the apolipoprotein binding 2o8n (Z=25), and the hydroxyehtylthiazole kinase 1v8a (Z=23).
